Keynote Speakers

  • Richard McLaughlin

     

    Dr. Richard McLaughlin completed his orthodontic training at the University of Southern California in 1976. Since then he has been in the full time practice of orthodontics in San Diego, California. He has lectured extensively in the United States as well as internationally. He is a member of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is the Component Director of the Southern California Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and Past President of the National Angle Society. He is the recipient of the 2009 American Board of Orthodontics Dale Wade Award as well as the 2010 Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists Award of Merit. In addition, Dr. McLaughlin is a clinical professor at the University of Southern California, Department of Orthodontics in Los Angeles, California, and an associate professor at Saint Louis University, Department of Orthodontics. He has written more than 30 journal articles and co-authored 5 textbooks.

  • Jay Bowman

     

    Dr. Bowman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists, a Fellow of both the International and the American College of Dentists, Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy International Honor Organization, a charter member of the World Federation of Orthodontists and is a Regent of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. He developed and teaches the Straightwire course at The University of Michigan, is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Saint Louis University, an Assistant Clinical Professor at Case Western Reserve University, and Visiting Clinical Lecturer at Seton Hill University. He received the Angle Research Award in 2000, the Alumni Merit Award from Saint Louis University in 2005, and Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation (OERF) Merit Award in 2017. He was also 1 of 4 on the Invisalign Teen Research Team and participated in the Insignia/Invisalign Research Group.

  • Ravindra Nanda

     

    Dr. Ravindra Nanda is at present UConn Alumni Endowed Chair, and Professor and Head of the Department of Craniofacial Sciences and Chair of Division of Orthodontics, University of Connecticut, Farmington, Connecticut, U.S.A.

    He received his dental training from Lucknow University, India in 1964. He received his orthodontic training first at Lucknow, India and then from Nymegen, The Netherlands and the University of Connecticut. He also received a Ph.D. for the University of Nymegen in 1969. He was an Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at Loyola University, Illinois from 1970 to 1972 and since 1972 he has been associated with the University of Connecticut.

    Dr. Nanda has done extensive research during the last forty years in the areas of cleft lip and palate, orthopedic forces and on long-term growth with orthognathic surgery in adolescents. In recent years, his major thrust has been in development of orthodontic wires, clinical orthodontic trials and application of biomechanics in a busy orthodontic practice.

    Dr. Nanda has been author and co-author of five orthodontic books and more than two hundred scientific and clinical articles in major journals. He is editor-in-chief of Progress in Orthodontics. He is on the editorial board of ten different national and international orthodontic journals. He is an associate editor of Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.

    He is an active member of various organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, European Orthodontic Society and Edward H. Angle Society. Dr. Nanda is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He has given numerous named lectures at national and international societies including the Mershon Lecture at American Association of Orthodontics and the Sheldon Friel Lecture at 2011 EOS Congress. He has been recognized with varios awards from numerous international orthodontic organizations.

    Dr.Nanda is a co-editor of a book Retention and Stability. His most recent books are Biomechanics in Clinical Orthodontics, Biomechanicand Esthetic Strategies In Clinical Orthodontics, Temporary Anchorage Devices in Orthodontics and Current Therapy in Orthodontics. His new book is titled Esthetics and Biomechanics in Orthodontics.

  • Greg Huang

     

    Dr. Huang attended the University of Florida for Dental School (1987), and then the University of Washington (UW) for his Certificate in Orthodontics and his MSD (1989).  After 10 years of private practice in Florida, he began a full-time academic career at UW, eventually being named as Chair of the Department in 2008.  Dr. Huang also earned an MPH in Epidemiology from UW (2001), and has been involved with many clinical studies, ranging from graduate student theses to national network studies.  Dr. Huang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, as well as an Angle Society member.  He has published more than 70 articles, and is the author of two orthodontic textbooks:  Evidence-based Orthodontics and Orthodontics: Current Principles and Techniques.  He serves on the Editorial Boards of Seminars in Orthodontics and Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research, and he has also served as an Associate Editor for the AJODO.

  • Ali Darendeliler

     

    Dr Darendeliler is Professor and Chair of Orthodontic, Discipline of Orthodontics, at the University of Sydney and Head of Department, Sydney Dental Hospital, Sydney South West Area Health Service. He received his dentistry training from the University of Istanbul and his PhD from the University of Gazi, in Turkey and his first specialist training in orthodontics from the University of Geneva, Switzerland and his second specialist training from the High Education Counsil, Turkey. During the course of his career he has undertaken duties as a clinical instructor, research and postgraduate coordinator (Maître d'Assisstant et de Recherche) at the University of Geneva, Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina, Research Professor at the University of Southern California. His research interests include orthodontic tooth movement, root resorption, obstructive sleep apnoea, temporary anchorage devices, sequential aligners, self-ligating brackets, orthopaedic treatment modalities, magnetic fields and forces and dentofacial orthopedics. He lectured in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. In addition to his research and teaching commitments he also maintains a private specialist orthodontic practice.

  • John Lin

     

    Dr John Jin-Jong Lin is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Taipei Medical University. He is a past president of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists, and maintains a private orthodontic practice. Dr Lin published "Creative Orthodontics, Blending the Damon System and TADs to Manage Difficult Malocclusions" in 2007 (1st edition) and 2010 (2nd edition), and "Class III Correction Orthodontics" in 2013 (1st edition). Dr Lin obtained his M.S. and Certificate in Orthodontics from the Marquette University (USA). He is a Senior Consultant of both the Taiwan Orthodontics Society and the Taiwan Association of Orthodontics.

  • Simon Littlewood

     

    Simon Littlewood has been a Consultant Orthodontist since 2001, and is Specialty Lead at St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford, UK. He also runs a small private orthodontic practice and is Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at University of Leeds, UK.


    He is currently an Elected Board Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England and was previously National Director for Professional Development for the British Orthodontic Society, on the editorial board of the Journal of Orthodontics, Chairman of the British Orthodontic Conference, and on the organising committee for the International Orthodontic Congress held in London in 2015. He co-founded the UK’s first Orthodontic Therapy Course in 2007 and is still one of the co-Directors of the Yorkshire Orthodontic Therapy Course. He was Postgraduate Training Programme Director at the University of Leeds from 2007-13.


    Dr Littlewood is a world-renowned expert in orthodontic retention. He has published many scientific articles and book chapters and is the lead author for the Cochrane Systematic Review on retention. As an entertaining and highly sought-after speaker, he is invited to lecture to orthodontic audiences all round the world.

  • Park Young Guk

     

    Prof. Young Guk Park is a world renowned researcher, author and speaker in clinical orthodontics and associated basic science. He is a Professor of Orthodontics at Kyung Hee University, Seoul, where he is the Dean of School of Dentistry. He is the Past President of the Korean Association of Orthodontists and the Korean Association of Orthodontists Foundation. He received his DMD degree from the Kyung Hee University, Seoul in 1981, and began his academic career in orthodontics immediately afterwards. He holds Master of Science in Orthodontics (1984), PhD in Oral Biology (1990), and also MBA in Healthcare Administration (2000). He has shared his expertise through his publications and lectures on accelerating tooth movement with Corticision™ which involves minor periodontal procedure without flap elevation, and "light accelerated orthodontics with LED". His lectures are well received around the globe. His main interest lies in the lingual orthodontics with individually tailored appliance, 3M Incognito™, and he has run the Incognito™ International Certification Courses in Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand during past 5 years.

  • Joerg Schwarze

     

    Dr. Schwarze studied dentistry and orthodontics in Bologna, Cologne and Bonn where he obtained his orthodontic specialization and doctorate degree. Using Invisalign® since 2001 he is, with more than 1500 treatments, one of Europe’s most experienced practitioners. Apart from his private practice in Cologne, he is in constant scientific exchange with the universities of Bonn and Ferrara/Italy as associate professor. He gives lectures on an international level and has released several scientific publications. Dr. Schwarze is a member of various orthodontic associations and co-founder and General Secretary of the German Association of Aligner Orthodontics (DGAO), member of the European Clinical Advisory Board, the Clinical Education Council and the Intl. Product Steering Board of Align Technology from day one. He won three awards of the German Orthodontic Society (DGKFO) and received the Align Technology International Research Award in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015 as well. In 2012 he also received the 1st Scientific Award of the DGAO. The orthodontic pliers "Gun I", "Gun II" and "SlotMachine" are developed by him. In 2012 he published his extraction strategy "IPRpe" (Smart Extraction) the first time.

  • Nikhilesh Vaid

     

    Dr Nikhilesh Vaid is the current President of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society and the Editor-in-Chief, APOS Trends in Orthodontics. He is the Immediate Past President of the Indian Orthodontic Society and is an Executive Committee Member of the World Federation of Orthodontists. Dr Nikhilesh is a Consultant Orthodontist in a specialist orthodontic practice in Mumbai, India.
